Pangaea, is it?
Just a few minutes before posting, we experienced an earthquake with still unknown intensity. This is the second time, one intensity 3 at around 8:58 in the morning. In Angles, a 4.5 magnitude also rocked the city which is caused by the moving of Manila trenches. An officemate who is much into environment said that this is a proof that the continental drift theory is true.
Twice in a day is too much as we have already experienced too many calamities here in Albay. This is why I searched the web about the Continental Drift Theory. I gathered that Alfred Wegener, a German geologist in 1915 hypothesized this theory.
In his findings, the Earth’s crust slowly drifts atop a liquid core which he supported with fossil records.

200 million years ago, the earth is made up of a gigantic super continent which he named Pangaea ( all-earth). It first broke into two smaller supercontinents during the Jurassic period, which he called Laurasia and Gondwanaland.
These two supercontinents broke into much smaller continents until by the end of the Cretaceous period, the continents separated into land masses that look like our modern-day continents.
Here is an illustration of our modern earth
It may be true based on the fossil records presented by geologists. I believe this is called the natural order of things. But let’s not make it sooner. Let’s stop polluting our planet and do something so the next generations will still be able to enjoy what we are enjoying now. Amidst all the problems we have in politics and other personal grievances, let’s not forget that we need to take care of our very own existence.
Let’s practise throwing garbage at the right dumping area to keep it from clogging our clean-out systems. Next time you go to the market, refrain from asking more plastic bags; instead, bring the old ones you saved at home. Also, start buying shampoos and other bottled or platic-contained needs in bulk to minimize wastes. And the next time you go out with your friends or family, opt for washable dishes rather than the CFC-made disposables. Do your share, please…
