This is history! While most of the 82nd Oscars winners are first timers, we cannot ignore that ex-wife to -James Cameron Kathryn Bigelow is this year’s Best Director! She is the first lady-director to be honored in the highest award-giving body in Hollywood.

Kathryn competed with ex-hub James Cameron for the greatest box office hit of all times ‘Avatar’, Lee Daniels for ‘Precious’, Jason Reitman for ‘Up in the Air’, and another biggie Quentin Tarantino for ‘Inglorious Basterds’. She won the title for her indie film “the Hurt Locker’. It is an action thriller movie based on the personal wartime experience of Mark Boal, who also won the ‘Best Writer’ award this year.

Kathryn Bigelow was also nominated in the Best Director category of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last year and won the title in different prestigious award-giving bodies: the Austin Film Critics, Boston Society of Film Critics, Chicago Film Critics Association, and Directors Guild of America.

The movie presents the soldiers’ point of view and constant death threat in the Middle East conflict. The film is also heavily casted: Jeremy Renner, Guy Pearce, and Ralph Fiennes
