Guess who showed his soft side on Sunday? None other than the tough guy himself, boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, Jr!
On his official Twitter account, Mayweather wrote “My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Philippines” and included a link to a CNN article on the super typhoon Yolanda’s death toll. This is newsy as every Filipino can recall how this boxing icon has taken potshots at Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao too many times in the past. Being a hero in the country, Filipinos have taken these jabs offensively.
But Mayweather wasn’t the only international sports icon to send out his thoughts to Yolanda victims. In fact, he wasn’t the first as Miami Heat’s superstar player Dwyane Wade took to Facebook his thoughts for his Asian fans just before Yolanda hit Leyte. His message read: “stay safe as Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda’s international code name) approaches. You are in my thoughts and prayers!” A similar message was also posted on his account in August for the victims of Typhoon Maring.
Wade’s half-Filipino coach, Erik Spoelstra, also offered a message of support and was published on NBA’s official website. His message read: “On behalf of the Miami HEAT organization, we would like to extend our condolences to the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We value the many fans that we have over there, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Pacman Faces Hatton

I still could remember when he made his hand slip to hit the black man even during a break. That was the dirtiest tactic I ever seen in major boxing game! So my respect for the guy is a bit low but with Pacman as opponent, I would go for him. Not that I don’t like the ‘pound per pound’ boxer, it’s just that I’ve heard so much about him. Things that indicate the guy have become overconfident. Maybe it was fame or the money he won each fight. And I’m glad he did not win last years election. That move was clever!
But I would say the guy is a clean fighter. He really strives hard for every win. You won’t feel you lost any of the luxury time you spent in each of his game. And for that, I bow to him. I just hope he will go back to the same humbler Pacman I come to know when he was still not so famous.
